Tara Morrison, 38, was a mom from Western Australia. In April 2024, police found her body stuffed inside a child’s cupboard at a home in Busselton, about 220 kilometers (roughly 137 miles) south of Perth. She had 40 stab wounds.
Two people went on trial for her murder. Hannah Glover, 30, and James Sorgiovanni, 29, both pleaded not guilty. About two weeks into the trial, on Thursday, Glover changed her plea to guilty.
The day before, a prisoner who cannot be named took the stand. She told the court Glover had confided in her about the killing. According to the inmate, Glover said she used several knives. She also said she saw Morrison give drugs to a child, and that she injected Morrison with a drug the inmate called fantasy. Glover then told her co-accused, “It’s time,” the inmate testified.
The inmate said Glover told her that Sorgiovanni, whom she called Jimmy, held Morrison’s arms behind her back. That’s when Glover stabbed her, the inmate told the court. She said Glover even acted out the sound of blood squirting, to show how much of it there was in the house.
Sorgiovanni has not changed his plea. His trial goes on.
State prosecutor Michael Cvetkoski laid out the case for the jury. Glover and Sorgiovanni had been together for less than two months when Morrison was killed, he said. She was stabbed again and again in the chest, neck, head, arm and hand. The last person to see her alive said he dropped her at Glover’s home, and when he tried to leave after taking drugs with them, the doors were locked. A neighbor was woken by a woman screaming for about 30 minutes, then the screaming stopped.
The state says a bloody palm print on the front door came from Morrison, as she tried to get out. “She was, in every sense of the words, fighting for her life,” Cvetkoski told the court. “It was two against one.”
Police came to the home for a welfare check. They saw blood on the door and walls, then found Morrison’s body. They say they also found several bloody knives, CCTV cameras ripped down and burnt hair soaked in blood. The state says gas and burners were turned on to burn the house down with her inside. Glover and Sorgiovanni had already left. They were driven to Margaret River, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) away, and then split up.
After his arrest, Sorgiovanni blamed Glover. He said he was asleep and heavily sedated by GHB when Morrison was attacked. His lawyer, Lisa Boston, told the court he did not kill Morrison. She said he took a powerful anesthetic and passed out in a bedroom, then woke to shouting and saw a “horror show.” Glover, the woman he thought he knew, was “a frenzied attacker with a knife,” Boston said.
Glover’s lawyer, Anthony Eyres, told the court in his opening remarks that she accepted she was in the home when Morrison was killed. He said Sorgiovanni did it, and that she denied stabbing Morrison. That was before she changed her plea.
Glover’s case returns to court Nov. 5. Sorgiovanni’s trial continues, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
