A disagreement over a stolen car bumper ended in a deadly shooting in Allentown, Pennsylvania, leaving 29-year-old Jose Rivera dead and three brothers facing criminal charges. The shooting happened Monday evening, November 2, 2026, in the 700 block of North Ninth Street near Tilghman Street. Investigators say a confrontation over who owned the bumper eventually turned into a physical fight before a gun was fired.
The incident reportedly started when a woman driving along North Ninth Street noticed a front bumper attached to a black Acura parked on the block. She believed it was the same bumper stolen from her vehicle two days earlier. After recognizing its markings, she contacted Julian Nathaniel Espada, 28, through FaceTime and told him where she had found it.

Espada went to the location and began taking the bumper off the Acura. While he was doing so, Rivera came out of his home and reportedly said the bumper belonged to him. Rivera then took the part from Espada, leading to an argument that soon became physical.
The confrontation escalated when Espada’s two brothers arrived. They were identified as Julius Jose Cortijo, 29, and Amiliano Escobar-Adorno, 21. According to prosecutors, Espada and Cortijo became involved in a fight with Rivera. During the struggle, Escobar-Adorno allegedly produced a handgun and shot Rivera in the chest.
The shooting occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday. Several people called 911, prompting a police response. Officers arrived to find Rivera with a serious gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel rushed him to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m.
Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio confirmed that Rivera died from a gunshot wound to the torso and ruled the death a homicide. Investigators also reported that surveillance footage captured the fight. All three brothers allegedly fled after the shooting, but authorities later located and arrested them.
Escobar-Adorno faces the most serious charge, criminal homicide, along with aggravated assault and conspiracy charges. Espada has been charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy, while Cortijo faces conspiracy charges. Their respective bail arrangements also differ. Escobar-Adorno is being held without bail, Espada’s bail is set at $500,000 cash, and Cortijo’s bail is set at $250,000 cash.
All three defendants are being held at Lehigh County Jail and are represented by the Lehigh County Public Defender’s Office. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on November 10, 2026. The case is being handled by Allentown police and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Homicide Task Force. The charges are allegations, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
What began as an attempt to recover a bumper believed to have been stolen ended with a fatal shooting on a neighborhood street. For Rivera’s family, the loss is far greater than the dispute that preceded it. A 29-year-old man is dead, and three brothers now face the legal consequences of their alleged roles in the incident.
