Danna Ruby and her 3-year-old daughter, Ruby Arizbeth, were killed in a violent crash on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia, early Friday morning, November 6, 2026. The mother and little girl were traveling in a Nissan Rogue when a speeding Dodge Charger struck their vehicle from behind, sending it off the interstate and causing it to overturn. The driver of the Charger, identified as 25-year-old Malik J. Thomas, now faces DUI and two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened around 1:53 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 141. What began as an early morning drive ended in tragedy, leaving two members of the same family dead.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that a Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed slammed into the rear of the Nissan Rogue carrying Danna and her daughter. The force of the collision sent the Nissan off the left side of the highway before it overturned.
Danna, born December 6, 1998, was just 27 years old. Her daughter, Ruby Arizbeth, was born on April 8, 2023. The little girl had barely begun her journey through life, while her mother still had so much ahead of her.
For their loved ones, the loss means saying goodbye to two people whose lives were closely connected. A mother and her young daughter are gone from the same family, leaving behind memories that will now carry a painful weight.
There are no words that can make such a loss easier. Ruby should have had more birthdays, more time to play, and more chances to grow up surrounded by the people who loved her. Danna should have had more years to watch her daughter discover the world.
Thomas has been charged with driving under the influence and two counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the crash. The charges are allegations, and the case will proceed through the legal system.
For now, the family is left to face a loss no parent, child, or relative should ever have to endure. Danna and Ruby’s lives ended together on a Virginia highway, but the memories they leave behind will remain with those who knew and loved them.
