Michon Minyard is 32 and now faces murder charges after a man died on Sullivant Avenue Thursday night. Police say Minyard assaulted Kyle Cooper and left him in the moving lanes. A car hit Kyle next. Kyle did not make it.

The call came in just before 9:30 p.m. near Binns Boulevard in the Hilltop neighborhood on Columbus’s west side. Officers found 30-year-old Kyle Cooper after the vehicle struck him. Medics got him to the hospital. He died from the injuries.

According to police, Minyard kicked and stomped Kyle while he was lying in the road. That put Kyle right where cars drive. Minyard was arrested on the spot. The charges are murder and felonious assault.

The driver stayed at the scene. Investigators say the driver was not part of any argument or the assault. No charges against the driver.

Hilltop streets like that one see plenty of cars even after dark. Leaving a person out there turns an assault into something far worse. That is the core of what police are looking at.

Minyard is the one in custody. The case sits with the homicide unit. They are asking for tips from anyone who was around.

This is how a fight on the West Side ended with one man dead and another facing the heaviest charges. Kyle Cooper was 30. The details are clear from what officers found that night.
