Steven Gomez was a 31-year-old barber working in Indianapolis who built his days around his trade and his passion for two wheels. Known locally for his work behind the chair, he spent much of his free time on his motorcycle, taking advantage of open roads whenever he could.
That routine came to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon. Emergency crews were dispatched around 2:13 p.m. following reports of a severe collision on the city’s southeast side.
Gomez was riding his motorcycle in the 6600 block of South Arlington Avenue when he collided with a pickup truck. The impact left the motorcycle destroyed and Gomez with fatal injuries.
First responders arrived at the scene shortly after the call came in. Despite immediate efforts by emergency personnel, Gomez was pronounced dead right there on South Arlington Avenue.
For Gomez, riding was a major part of his life. He was operating a high-performance Honda CBR1000RR-R at the time of the wreck, a machine he was deeply proud to own.
Just a couple of hours before heading out on the road, Gomez had posted an update about his motorcycle online. The quick post showed off the bike, showing how excited he was to take it out that afternoon.
The driver of the pickup truck stayed on the scene following the collision. Officers spoke with the driver as part of their initial field investigation, and full cooperation was offered as police worked to figure out how the two vehicles crossed paths.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office officially identified Gomez on Monday morning. Crash investigators are continuing to look into the exact factors that led to the wreck, including speed, road conditions, and right-of-way.
