Sunday afternoon in southeast Indianapolis turned fatal when a motorcycle and a pickup truck collided along a busy stretch of road. The crash claimed the life of a local resident and brought traffic to a halt as emergency crews worked the scene.
The wreck took place around 2:13 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Arlington Avenue. Callers alerted authorities immediately after hearing and seeing the collision between the motorcycle and the truck.
Hours before he got on the bike, Steven Gomez shared a simple update online featuring his Honda CBR1000RR-R. It was a routine post for the motorcycle enthusiast, sharing his love for riding with friends and followers before heading out for the day.
Gomez, 31, worked as a barber in Indianapolis. Friends and clients knew him as a dedicated craftsman who spent his downtime working on and riding motorcycles.
When officers arrived at the South Arlington Avenue location, they found Gomez severely injured near the wreckage. Paramedics confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries on site.
The driver of the pickup truck involved in the crash did not flee. The individual remained at the location, waited for police, and spoke directly with officers as they began gathering preliminary details.
Investigators with the local police department set up a perimeter to document physical evidence, vehicle placement, and skid marks along the roadway. The Marion County Coroner’s Office arrived shortly after to take charge of the identification process, confirming Gomez’s identity on Monday.
The investigation into the incident remains active. Crash reconstruction teams are continuing to review the details to determine exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the impact.
