Danna Ruby and her 3-year-old daughter, Ruby Arizbeth, were killed in a devastating crash on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia, early Friday morning, November 6, 2026. What should have been another ordinary journey ended in tragedy after a speeding Dodge Charger slammed into the Nissan Rogue carrying the mother and child. The driver of the Charger, identified as 25-year-old Malik Jeremiah Thomas of Fredericksburg, is facing charges connected to their deaths.
The collision happened around 1:53 a.m. on northbound Interstate 95 near mile marker 141. According to the preliminary investigation by Virginia State Police, the Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the back of the Nissan Rogue. The impact sent the SUV off the left side of the highway, where it overturned.

Danna, born December 6, 1998, was a passenger in the Nissan Rogue. She died at the scene. Her young daughter, Ruby Arizbeth, born April 8, 2023, was rushed to a nearby hospital after the crash but later died from her injuries. The little girl was not yet four years old.
The person driving the Nissan Rogue, identified by the local prosecutor as the children’s father and Danna’s husband, also suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Three passengers inside the Dodge Charger sustained minor injuries, while Thomas escaped the crash without physical injuries.
Stafford County Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Olsen provided additional information about the case. According to his statement, Thomas had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.17%, more than twice Virginia’s legal limit of 0.08%. He also reportedly identified himself to investigators as an active-duty Marine.
Thomas initially faced a driving while intoxicated charge before prosecutors brought two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter. Each manslaughter charge carries a possible maximum prison sentence of 20 years. He was expected to appear in court on Monday, November 9, as the case moves forward.
For Danna’s family, the loss means saying goodbye to a mother and daughter whose lives ended far too soon. Ruby had barely begun discovering the world around her. There should have been more birthdays, family photographs, school days and countless opportunities for her mother to watch her grow.
Their husband and father is also facing a painful recovery while dealing with the loss of his wife and little girl. The family now has to face a future that looks nothing like the one they had before that early-morning journey.
Virginia State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Meanwhile, Danna and Ruby are being remembered as a mother and daughter whose lives were taken in a crash that has left their family grieving an unimaginable loss.
