Timothy Summerville Jr., 47, of Baltimore, was driving north on Interstate 95 early Saturday when a Jeep traveling in the wrong direction struck his vehicle head-on. The crash happened near mile marker 44 in Elkridge, Howard County, and claimed the lives of both drivers.
The other driver was identified in the supplied report as Taleb Ait Zakariae, 37, of Rosedale, Maryland. He was driving a 2025 Jeep Gladiator southbound in the first lane of the northbound interstate when the collision occurred.

Summerville was traveling in the first lane of the northbound highway in a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The two vehicles met head-on around 4:30 a.m., near the Northrop Grumman area of Elkridge, southwest of Baltimore.
The impact proved fatal for both men. Emergency medical personnel responded, but neither driver survived. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and police confirmed that there were no passengers in either vehicle.
Investigators are looking into what led Ait Zakariae to travel in the wrong direction on the interstate. Maryland State Police said alcohol and speed may have contributed to the crash, although neither has been confirmed as the cause.
The timing and location of the collision also meant that emergency crews had to respond to a serious incident on a major interstate route. Troopers from the Waterloo Barrack handled the initial response, with assistance from Howard County police and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team has taken charge of the investigation. Authorities have not announced further findings, and investigators are still working to determine the events that led to the fatal impact.
For Summerville’s family and friends, the loss came without warning. The 47-year-old was traveling along I-95 when the collision took place, and he never made it to his destination. Ait Zakariae also lost his life in the same crash, leaving two families facing the painful aftermath of the early-morning tragedy.
