Daniel Sanchez Valencia was just 26 years old. He lived in Wharton. Early Friday morning he died on Interstate 80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills.
Police say he drove his Toyota SUV westbound near milepost 41.8. He lost control. The vehicle left the road to the left. It crossed the grassy median and hit a tree.
Daniel got out of the SUV. Then the vehicle rolled backward. It hit him hard. The SUV kept going and struck a second tree.
He suffered fatal injuries right there. Troopers arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. The crash is still under investigation.
Friends and family in Wharton now face a sudden empty space. Daniel was young. He had years ahead of him that never came.
The way it happened leaves people quiet. One moment on the highway. Then everything stopped.
