Brandon Eich left the Pickens Police Department station Monday like he had so many times before. He was heading home after his shift when a medical emergency hit. He died that same day, October 19, 2026. The news landed hard on his family, his fellow officers, and the folks around Pickens who knew him.
Eich was a husband, a dad, and a grandfather first. Those closest to him talk about the everyday stuff that made him who he was. He showed up for the people in his life. He gave advice when it was needed and shared laughs that stuck with them. His wife, kids, and grandkids now carry those memories while dealing with the empty space he left.

Before he put on the reserve officer uniform in Pickens, Eich worked as a lieutenant with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. That job asked for discipline and steady nerves. Later he built homes for a living and did well at it. Even then, the pull toward law enforcement never left him. He came back to it as a reserve officer because he wanted to keep helping.
Around the department he ran the drone for football games, search warrants, and other tough calls. The view from above helped keep officers safer. He also pushed to get money for body armor and gear for the cars. Those tools mattered on the street. He spent time with the NextGen youth program too, talking to kids who might one day wear a badge.
Not long ago he helped start the Stillwater Law Enforcement Foundation. The idea was simple. Give officers across South Carolina better training. Eich kept looking for ways to make the work better for everyone who did it. His coworkers say the time he spent with them made them better cops and better people.
The Pickens Police Department put out a statement that hit the right note. They said his passion for the job stood out. They asked the community to keep his family in their thoughts. Officers who worked beside him feel the loss in the small ways that add up during a shift. Someone who showed up ready and willing is gone.
Eich’s story stays with the people he helped and the ones he raised. The department closed their message with plain words that fit him. Rest easy, Brandon. We are better because we knew you.
