A father and son on their way to work Friday morning ran across a body lying in the middle of a dirt road in Macon County. They stopped and called the sheriff’s office. Deputies got there and found 35-year-old Mercedes Janay Nicole Radford.
The spot was near County Road 2 and County Road 9, off the beaten path. Sheriff Andre Brunson described it as secluded. Crime scene tape sealed the area while investigators checked the ground and surroundings.
Brunson believes Mercedes was killed early that Friday. Her death is being handled as a homicide. No details on the exact cause have been released yet. Detectives are still gathering what they can.
No suspect has turned up. No motive is clear. The sheriff said he does not believe she was from Macon County. That leaves open where she had been before ending up on that road.
