Keerat Riar was just 25 when his life ended early Thursday on Friant Road in Fresno County. The Clovis man was behind the wheel of a McLaren 720S Spider convertible. He was heading north near Belcher Street around 12:10 a.m.

California Highway Patrol officers found the car upside down after it hit the median and rolled. Riar was pronounced dead right there at the scene. Speed played a big role, according to the reports.

A 68-year-old passenger sat in the right front seat. He took major injuries but stayed conscious. Crews rushed him to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The McLaren was unregistered. Investigators said Riar lost control while going fast on the stretch south of Belcher Road. The car struck the raised median hard and flipped onto its roof.

No signs pointed to alcohol or drugs. That detail came straight from the highway patrol. The road closed for a bit while they worked the scene, then opened back up.

Friends and family in Clovis now face the sudden hole left by someone so young. Riar lived in the area. The crash cut short whatever plans he had for the years ahead.

One moment he was driving. The next, everything stopped. The passenger fights to recover. The investigation continues into the exact speeds involved.
