Around 9:45 Monday night a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja left State Route 60 in Florence Township and hit a parked car that was sitting empty. The rider, Justin Henschel, 42, of Elyria, was thrown clear. The bike kept moving and smashed into two fences before it finally stopped.

He was wearing a helmet. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers confirmed that much right away. Still, Justin did not survive the crash. He came to rest off the left side of the road south of State Route 113.

Crews from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Florence Township Fire Department, Citizen Ambulance, and a local towing company worked the scene. They handled the wreckage and the aftermath while the official probe started.

The road curves there. Justin was headed south when he lost control. That is the basic picture troopers have released so far. Nothing more is public yet about why the bike left the pavement.

Forty-two years old and living in Elyria. One ride on a Monday night and he is gone. The suddenness leaves the people close to him trying to make sense of it.

The investigation remains open. Troopers have not said if weather, speed, or anything else played a part. For now the facts stay simple: a motorcycle, a curve, a parked car, and a rider who did not walk away.

Justin Henschel’s name is now tied to that stretch of State Route 60 in Florence Township. The people who knew him carry the rest.
