Saturday night in southern Jefferson County turned tragic when a 45-year-old Frankfort man lost his life in a violent neighborhood car crash. James G. Tarrence was riding in the passenger seat of a car when the vehicle smashed into a parked car on Candleglow Lane. The impact killed him right at the scene before medical help could arrive.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. in the 7900 block of Candleglow Lane, a residential strip off Old Shepherdsville Road. Neighbors heard the sudden crunch of metal and rushed outside to see what happened. They found the wrecked car sitting alongside the curb with heavy damage.

James suffered blunt force trauma from the heavy crash, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. First responders checked his vitals as soon as they reached the block, but there was nothing they could do to save him. Coroner officials pronounced him dead right where the car came to a stop.

While James lay dying in the passenger seat, the person behind the wheel made a quick choice to run. People living on the street told officers they saw the driver jump out of the car and take off on foot immediately after the impact. The driver left James behind in the crushed vehicle.

Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department spread out through the surrounding neighborhood to track down the fleeing driver. They spotted the driver walking a short distance away from the crash site just a short time later. Police stopped the driver and found that the person did not have a single injury.

James was a resident of Frankfort, making the trip down to the Louisville area over the weekend. Friends and community members in Franklin and Jefferson counties are now trying to process the sudden loss of a man who died far from home under disturbing circumstances.

The Louisville Metro Police Department’s Traffic Unit is currently handling the investigation into what caused the driver to lose control. Spokesperson Officer Chris Baker confirmed that no criminal charges have been filed against the driver yet, but investigators are still gathering evidence from the scene.
