A short law enforcement pursuit through York County ended in a fatal motorcycle wreck late Sunday night near a local community center. The rider died at the scene after traveling at speeds over double the posted limit.

York County Sheriff’s deputies first tried to stop the 2024 Harley-Davidson near the intersection of West Main Street and Meadowlark Drive. Officers reported the bike traveling well over the speed limit before initiating the stop.

The rider, identified as 31-year-old Kyle Paul Fauls, refused to pull over. He turned onto Rawlinson Road and opened up the throttle to evade the patrol units behind him.

Police vehicles followed as the chase stretched across roughly 1.5 miles of road. Authorities reported that the pursuit reached extreme speeds of around 120 miles per hour during the short run.

The chase came to a sudden halt near the Rock Hill Aquatics Center. Fauls attempted to pass a slower vehicle by maneuvering into the median, but he lost control of the bike and crashed straight into a ditch.

Deputies immediately halted the chase and started emergency CPR on Fauls right at the crash location. Despite life-saving efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead on site.

Sheriff’s office representatives called the incident a terrible tragedy for the local community. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the wreck.
