State troopers are investigating a fatal crash that closed down traffic in Accomack County on Friday, September 18, 2026. Virginia State Police received a call around 11:56 a.m. about a collision between a bicycle and a pickup truck.

The incident occurred where Wachapreague Road crosses the southbound lanes of Route 13. Investigators say 49-year-old Shirome Dwayne Davis of Temperanceville was pedaling westbound on Wachapreague Road toward the main highway.

A gray 2011 Ford F-150 was moving south on Route 13 as Davis reached the junction. The bicycle traveled into the travel lane and collided directly with the side of the pickup.

The side impact caused fatal injuries to the cyclist. Emergency responders arrived within minutes to secure the lanes and evaluate the scene along Route 13.

Troopers confirmed that Davis died at the spot from his injuries. Officers marked off the crash area, checked the gray pickup truck for side damage, and directed traffic around the intersection.

State police completed the formal identification and family notifications later in the afternoon. Officials confirmed that Davis’s next of kin were notified shortly after officers cleared the immediate scene.

Virginia State Police noted that the case remains open as investigators compile their final report. Officials have not issued citations or released additional statements while collision reconstruction continues.
