A 19-year-old local resident died Friday night after someone shot him in a residential driveway on Green Oak Drive.
Jamarius Joshua Woods was lying on the pavement when help arrived. Officers got the emergency call around 8:09 p.m. and rushed to the 2100 block of Green Oak Drive.

Police officers were the first on the scene. They found Woods suffering from a single gunshot wound and immediately started CPR and first aid to keep him alive.

Medics from Cleveland County EMS and firefighters from Shelby Fire and Rescue pulled up moments later. They took over emergency care and tried everything they could to save the young man.

Woods died right there at the scene. Paramedics could not revive him despite their continuous efforts on the driveway.

Detectives from the Shelby Police Department spent the night collecting evidence and talking to neighbors. They are still trying to figure out who pulled the trigger and why Woods was targeted.

Authorities have not named any suspects or announced any arrests. Anyone with information about the shooting on Green Oak Drive is asked to call local police.
