The loss of six-year-old Abigail Segura on Tuesday morning marked a tragic outcome for an Austin family already dealing with sudden grief. She passed away at the hospital nearly a week after a two-car collision at a busy highway intersection. Her death came six days after her nine-year-old sister, Lilliana Segura, died from injuries suffered in the exact same crash.

The wreck happened early in the morning on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Around 7:41 a.m., a Jeep Compass carrying the two young sisters and a driver moved north along the South Interstate 35 service road. At that same moment, a Tesla Cybertruck with a single driver traveled west along the East State Highway 71 service road near Ben White Boulevard.

Both vehicles entered the intersection and collided with heavy force. The impact crushed the side of the Jeep, trapping the young passengers inside. Emergency crews arrived quickly at the scene and rushed both girls to the hospital in critical condition.

Nine-year-old Lilliana did not survive the morning. Emergency medical staff worked on her at the hospital, but she died shortly after arrival. Family members were left to mourn her death while keeping a vigil at her younger sister’s bedside.

Abigail fought for her life in intensive care over the next six days. Family and friends waited at the hospital, hoping her condition would improve. Those hopes ended Tuesday morning when doctors confirmed that the six-year-old had died from her injuries.

Traffic investigators spent hours at the intersection trying to figure out what went wrong. Neither driver showed any signs of impairment, and alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the collision. Both drivers stayed at the scene after the crash and answered questions from traffic officers.

The tragedy brought Austin’s traffic death count to sixty for the year 2026. Funeral arrangements are currently being planned for both sisters as community members organize local fundraisers to help the family cover medical bills and burial costs.
