A violent morning collision at a major service road intersection in south Austin claimed the lives of two young sisters. Nine-year-old Lilliana Segura died shortly after the September 9, 2026 crash, and her six-year-old sister Abigail Segura passed away early Tuesday following days in critical care.
The two-vehicle crash happened right at the height of the morning commute around 7:41 a.m. Traffic was heavy along the service roads near the junction of South Interstate 35 and East State Highway 71, also known as Ben White Boulevard.

The Jeep Compass carrying the two young girls was traveling northbound along the Interstate 35 service road. Meanwhile, a Tesla Cybertruck was driving westbound along the Highway 71 service road before the two vehicles met at the center of the intersection.
The force of the crash caused severe damage to the Jeep, leaving both young passengers with life-threatening trauma. Rescue teams extracted the sisters from the car and transported them immediately to a nearby trauma facility.
Hospital staff pronounced nine-year-old Lilliana dead a short time after she arrived. Her sister Abigail survived the initial crash but remained on life support in the intensive care unit until she succumbed to her injuries Tuesday morning.
Traffic detectives shut down the service roads to reconstruct the crash scene and determine who had the right of way. Tests confirmed that neither driver was intoxicated at the time of the wreck, and both drivers fully cooperated with officers on scene.
City records show this incident accounts for the 56th and 60th fatal traffic crashes in Austin for 2026. While the investigation remains open, local support groups have stepped in to assist the Segura family with funeral expenses for both girls.
