Huntington police officers are asking neighbors along Jefferson Avenue to check their security cameras after a fatal motorcycle wreck took place early Monday morning. The crash claimed the life of twenty-seven-year-old Trevor Cyrus of Huntington.
Dispatchers received the emergency call at approximately 1:59 a.m. regarding a motorcycle hitting a parked vehicle in the sixteen hundred block of Jefferson Avenue. Patrol officers who arrived first on scene found Cyrus beside the wrecked motorcycle and called for immediate medical assistance.
Paramedics worked on Cyrus at the scene, but he was declared dead a short time later. No other vehicles were moving on the road at the time of the impact, according to preliminary reports from the department.
Detectives spent the early morning hours canvassing the residential strip, looking for doorbell cameras or exterior security systems that might have captured the moments before the collision. Officers want to track the motorcycle’s direction of travel and verify its speed prior to impact.
Parked cars line both sides of the sixteen hundred block of Jefferson Avenue, making street visibility and reaction times tight during late hours. Investigators are examining the parked vehicle involved to determine the exact point of contact.
Police have not said whether alcohol, mechanical failure, or poor lighting contributed to the incident. The official cause of death will be determined by the state medical examiner’s office as part of standard procedure.
Anyone who saw the motorcycle in the area around two in the morning or has video footage is urged to contact the Huntington Police Department. The investigation remains open and active as traffic officers finalize their report.
