A 2003 Cadillac Escalade struck a mailbox and overturned along a rural Alabama road Thursday afternoon, killing its driver, 34-year-old Megan L. Kilpatrick of Wing. The crash happened around 1:55 p.m. on November 5 along Covington County Road 4. Authorities said Kilpatrick was ejected from the SUV during the rollover and died at the scene.

The crash occurred near Barton Road, about four miles east of Wing in Covington County. Kilpatrick was behind the wheel when the Escalade left the roadway, struck a mailbox and overturned. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed the incident.

One detail reported by investigators was that Kilpatrick was not wearing a seat belt. She was thrown from the vehicle during the rollover. The force of the crash left her with fatal injuries, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

What caused the SUV to leave the roadway has not been established publicly. Authorities have not released details about the vehicle’s speed, the road conditions or whether anything happened immediately before the driver lost control.

The crash took place on a rural stretch of County Road 4 near the Conecuh National Forest. The location is east of Wing, a small unincorporated community in southern Covington County. Unlike busy highways, roads in this part of the county pass through largely rural surroundings.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division has taken charge of the investigation. Troopers are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal rollover. No further information has been released.

Kilpatrick, 34, was from Wing, Alabama. Her death was the only fatality reported in the crash information released by authorities. Investigators have not announced any additional findings or provided a timeline for completing their work.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to determine exactly what happened before the Cadillac left the roadway. For now, the known facts point to a single-vehicle rollover that claimed the life of a 34-year-old Alabama woman.
