A 40-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run in Shelby, North Carolina, after a driver struck him and left the scene without stopping to help. Now, police are searching for the driver as they appeal to residents for information that could help explain what happened to Bo Jean Anderson.
The crash happened Thursday, October 29, 2026, at approximately 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Edwards Street and Tyler Drive, just off South Lafayette Street. The area is in the Brittain Village neighborhood of Shelby.
Police received a 911 call from a passerby who reported finding a pedestrian who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Officers responded to the scene and found Anderson seriously injured. Despite their response, he died from his injuries shortly after officers arrived.
Anderson was identified as a 40-year-old Shelby resident who lived in the neighborhood. Police have not released further details about what led to the crash or the vehicle involved.
What makes the case particularly troubling is that the driver reportedly left without stopping. Instead of remaining at the scene and seeking help for the injured pedestrian, the person behind the wheel drove away. Police are now working to identify that driver.
The Shelby Police Department is asking residents of Brittain Village and nearby neighborhoods to check their security cameras for anything that might help the investigation. Investigators specifically want footage recorded between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on October 29.
That request includes doorbell cameras, home security systems and other recording devices that may have captured vehicles or unusual activity around Edwards Street, Tyler Drive and the surrounding roads. Police say even a small detail could help them establish what happened and identify the driver.
Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact Detective A. Surratt at 704-418-6422. Information can also be provided through the Shelby Police Department’s non-emergency number at 704-484-6845.
People who prefer to remain anonymous can contact Cleveland County Crime Stoppers at 704-481-TIPS or submit information through the P3 Tips mobile app.
For Anderson’s family and those who knew him, his death has left a painful loss. While investigators continue searching for answers, police are hoping someone in the neighborhood has footage or information that could help bring the driver responsible to light.
