A tense police standoff at a Marietta home came to an end Friday after a 38-year-old man accused of stabbing his older brother finally agreed to come outside and surrender. Officers had spent several hours trying to get him out of the residence after the injured man told them what had happened.
The suspect was identified as Jeffrey White. Police said the incident began shortly before 9:30 a.m. on October 30, when officers responded to a reported stabbing at a home along the 400 block of North Saint Marys Lane in Marietta, Georgia.

At the property, officers found a 40-year-old man outside with a stab wound to the back of his upper right shoulder. The victim reportedly told police that his younger brother had stabbed him and remained inside the house.
The injured man was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening, although the incident had already turned into a serious police response.
White, however, was not coming out. Officers said he remained inside the home and refused to cooperate for several hours. With the suspect still inside, police had to work toward a peaceful resolution rather than simply ending the situation at the door.
Negotiators were eventually brought in to speak with White. They spent time trying to persuade him to leave the residence and surrender to officers.
After several hours, White finally agreed to come outside. He surrendered without further incident, allowing officers to bring the standoff to a close.
His surrender did not end his legal troubles. White was arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and aggravated battery, according to police.
Authorities have not released the name of the 40-year-old victim. They have also not explained what caused the confrontation between the two brothers or what happened immediately before the alleged stabbing.
The case now moves forward with White facing two serious felony charges. Police have confirmed that the injured brother survived and was taken for medical treatment, but further details about the family dispute have not been made public.
