Nijm Scott was in that retention pond near Paden Street and Maple Street when Woodstock cops showed up Thursday evening. The call came in at 6:48 p.m. about a suspicious person. Scott is 38 and lives in Roswell. Officers found him right there in the water.

He told them he would shoot anyone who came close. He said he was about to start shooting. Then he made a sudden move. The officers fired. Bullets hit him. They pulled him out of the pond right away.

Woodstock and Cherokee firefighters worked on him at the scene. Then they took him to the hospital. He is stable now. Two officers got hurt too. Their injuries are not life-threatening. They went to the hospital for treatment. Nobody has said how they got hurt yet.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the whole thing. They have the case now. Downtown Woodstock stayed quiet after it happened. People who live nearby heard the shots and saw the lights.

Scott came from Roswell that day. No one knows yet what put him in the pond or why the call came in. The streets around Paden and Maple are usually just regular downtown spots. That night they turned into something else.
