Jesus “Jessie” Cervantez sat in his white Kia on a Thursday afternoon in Odessa. He was 71 and waiting in the left-turn lane on the 4100 block of North JBS Parkway. It was about 3:31 p.m. on October 22, 2026.

A red Ford Mustang came north in the inside lane. The driver left the roadway and hit the back of Jessie’s car hard. That one hit started a chain reaction. A silver Lexus and a brown Ford F-150 were both heading south when they got pulled into the mess.

Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue got to the scene fast. They found Jessie hurt bad. Crews took him to Medical Center Hospital. Doctors there said he did not make it. His family got the word later that day.

Jessie lived right here in Odessa. Folks who knew him called him Jessie most of the time. At 71 he still drove himself around town like he always had. The crash came out of nowhere while he waited for the light to change.

Police are still looking into what made the Mustang leave the road. No other big details have come out yet. The southbound lanes stayed shut for a while so crews could clear the wrecks.

Friends and family now face empty chairs at the table. Jessie’s name will keep coming up in quiet talks around town. The investigation keeps going as officers piece together the afternoon.

People who drive that stretch of JBS Parkway every day know how quick things can change. Jessie’s last drive ended there in the left-turn lane.
