Aniyah Jenkins never made it home Wednesday afternoon. The 26-year-old from Bluffton died right there at the scene after a multi-vehicle crash on Okatie Highway near the New River Bridge in Beaufort County.

Chief Deputy Coroner Shane Bowers said she passed around 3:57 p.m. from multiple blunt force injuries. The wreck shut down the road in both directions for a while. Drivers headed toward Savannah or coming up from the New River area had to find other ways around.

People who knew her called her DaBiggestt. She was young. Twenty-six is no age to go. Folks in Bluffton and around Beaufort County are still taking it in. One minute the highway is moving. Next minute everything stops.

The Bluffton Police Department is looking into how the crash happened. No word yet on the other vehicles or what led up to it. Investigators are still working the details.

Aniyah lived in Bluffton. That Lowcountry stretch of road near the bridge is familiar to a lot of local drivers. Now it carries a heavy mark for her family and friends.

The community is quiet about it in the way these things make people quiet. Memories of her stick with the ones who spent time with her. Simple days. Ordinary talks. All of it cut short.

She leaves behind people who will keep saying her name. Aniyah Jenkins. DaBiggestt. Gone from the road she was traveling that Wednesday.
