Devin Grant drove her orange Nissan Kicks way too fast down eastbound Kellogg near the K-96 interchange in Wichita Thursday morning. The 27-year-old hit concrete bridge supports hard. Firefighters pulled her out of the wreck. She was already gone at the scene.
Sedgwick County deputies looked over the crash site and found a note inside. It pointed them straight to a house in the 200 block of North Mathewson. They called Wichita police for a welfare check right away.

Officers walked into that home and found Patricia Grant dead. She had multiple stab wounds. Two cats lay dead inside the same place. Police say the evidence shows Devin did this to her mother before she left and got in that car.
Patricia was Devin’s mom. The two women lived connected lives in Wichita until that morning on October 15. No one has said why it happened. Investigators from Wichita police and the sheriff’s office are still digging into both scenes.
The crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. Devin was the only one in the vehicle. She left the road at high speed and slammed into those supports near the ramp. That ended her life minutes after the stabbing.
Family details stay private for now. No names of other relatives, no spouses or siblings listed in official reports. No funeral plans or obituaries have come out yet. The family will share those when they are ready.
This case stays open as an apparent murder-suicide. Police called it a tragic loss of two family members. More facts may surface as the work continues in Wichita.
