Angelica Olga Hilario was just 30 years old when a routine ride on her electric scooter ended her life on Tucson’s east side. It happened Thursday night, October 15, 2026, around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Grant and Ridgeway roads.
She was heading westbound on Grant Road when a 2023 Kia Sportage came out of a private driveway. The SUV struck her scooter hard. Crews got her to a hospital fast, but doctors could not save her. She was pronounced dead that same night.

Police said the 69-year-old driver behind the wheel failed to yield as he entered the roadway. He was not impaired. At the same time, Angelica’s scooter lights were not on, even though rules require them at night for scooters and bikes.
No one got arrested or ticketed right away. Detectives are still looking into every detail of what went wrong at that quiet intersection. The crash left family and friends with sudden questions and empty space where her plans used to be.
Angelica had years ahead of her. Ordinary nights like this one do not usually turn deadly. Yet here on Tucson’s east side, two simple mistakes came together and changed everything in seconds.
People who knew her now carry the weight of that loss. The roads keep moving, but her absence stays. Investigators continue their work while the community feels the quiet that followed.
Rest easy, Angelica. The city remembers the young woman who did not make it home that Thursday night.
