Patricia Grant died in her Wichita home from multiple stab wounds. Her daughter Devin Grant, 27, is the one police say did it. Then Devin wrecked her car and died too.
It started with a note. Deputies found it while checking out a crash on Kellogg near K-96. The note pointed to a house in the 200 block of North Mathewson. Someone there might be dead.
Cops went for a welfare check. Inside they found Patricia. She had been stabbed many times. Two cats lay dead in the house as well. The whole place felt wrong.
About 9:30 that Thursday morning Devin drove an orange Nissan Kicks east on Kellogg. She went fast. The car left the road and hit concrete supports near the K-96 ramp. It flipped. Firefighters pulled her out. She was the only one in the car and she died right there.
Police put it together quick. Evidence shows Devin killed her mother first. Then she left and crashed. They call it a murder-suicide.
No one knows why it happened. Cops have not said a thing about any reason. Questions hang over the family and the neighborhood.
Two people from the same family are gone. The house on Mathewson sits quiet now. The road where the crash happened keeps carrying traffic like nothing changed.
