Madison Null sat in the passenger seat of the family Nissan Armada when it left the road on US 321. The crash hit near the 29-mile marker in Lincoln County around 11:33 a.m. Thursday. She is 28 and lives in Lincolnton with her husband Gregory, 29.

Gregory was driving north. The Armada went off the left side of the highway. He overcorrected. The vehicle crossed back onto the road, then ran off the right side and flipped.

Madison was airlifted to a Charlotte-area hospital with serious injuries. Gregory went by ground to a local hospital, also seriously hurt. Their four children, between one and four years old, all rode in ambulances to a hospital with serious injuries of their own.

One child was ejected from the Armada in the wreck. Highway Patrol troopers said none of the kids had been properly restrained.

Charges are expected, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Officers stressed that car seats matter and kids need to be buckled the right way every trip.

The single-vehicle crash turned a regular drive into a medical emergency for the whole family. The Armada ended up overturned after the two times it left the pavement.

Madison and Gregory are both still in treatment. The four young kids face their own recovery from the same sudden rollover. One of them left the vehicle completely during the impact.

Troopers stayed on scene to piece together what happened. The road saw delays while they worked. The case remains open as the family heals.
