Brian Martin, 42, sat behind the wheel of the third car that struck two others near Northwest Barry Road and North Allenton Drive in Kansas City, Missouri. It happened about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Police say he drove into the vehicles on purpose.
Officers arrived and found three cars tangled at the intersection. A man inside the first vehicle had serious injuries. Cheryl Bruette, 63, sat in the second car with life-threatening wounds. Both went to the hospital. Cheryl died soon after doctors started working on her.

Martin stayed at the scene in his vehicle. Accident investigators checked the damage and the way the cars sat. Early signs pointed to an intentional strike by the third car. Homicide detectives stepped in right then.
Prosecutors charged Martin with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, and armed criminal action. He remains in custody while the case moves forward. Police collected evidence, statements, and any video from nearby cameras.
The other injured man stays under care for his serious wounds. The crash left two people hurt and one woman dead at an intersection most folks pass every day without a second thought.
Detectives continue sorting through the details. They want a clear timeline of how the third vehicle moved into the others. The Kansas City Police Department lists the death as a homicide under active investigation.
Martin’s arrest closed one part of the night. The rest of the story still sits with the detectives who work the evidence from that Northland corner.
