Police rolled into Altgeld Gardens late Thursday after shots rang out near 131st and St. Lawrence. They found 15-year-old Terron Frieson lying on the ground with several bullet wounds. The time was about 10:52 p.m.
Medics took him straight to Christ Medical Center. He did not make it. Just last month the boy had blown out candles on his 15th birthday cake. Family members say he was a solid student who avoided the streets.

Witnesses told police Terron was standing outside when an unknown person walked up and opened fire. The shooter took off running. Detectives from Area Two have the case but no one is in custody yet.
Friends describe a young man who showed up for class and kept his head down. They still cannot believe the same kid who celebrated a birthday weeks ago is gone. The loss leaves a hole in the small circle that knew him best.
Gunfire is nothing new in parts of Chicago’s Far South Side, but each time it takes a kid like Terron the sting feels fresh. People in the Gardens talk about trying to keep children safe. Some nights that job feels impossible.
The medical examiner confirmed the identity. Multiple gunshot wounds ended everything in minutes. No motive has been made public.
Anyone with information can call Chicago police. Until then the streets stay quiet and a family grieves a son who never got the chance to grow up.
