Paul Smith was just 16 years old. He lived in LaGrange. On Tuesday night he was shot and did not make it.
Deputies got the call at 7:03 p.m. Someone reported a person shot inside a car on the 200 block of Bass Cross Road. Fire crews and medics showed up too. They found Paul unresponsive with gunshot wounds. They worked hard to save him right there.

They took him to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. The doctors could not keep him alive. He died from the wounds later that night.
The shooting did not happen on Bass Cross Road. Investigators said it took place at a house on Sims Road. Another person put Paul in a car, drove him away from that house, and called 911 for help.
Paul had his whole life ahead of him. At 16 most kids think about school, friends, and what comes next. His family and friends now face a hole that will not fill easy.
Hunter Smith, 21 years old, was arrested at the Sims Road house just before 10 p.m. Officers took him without any trouble. He went straight to the Troup County Jail. The case is still open. No one has said yet what led to the shots or how the two were connected.
People who knew Paul feel the weight of this hard. A young life ended in a few hours. The investigation keeps going while the family tries to get through each day.
