Linda Ross was 75 years old and driving her Hyundai Tucson on a Tuesday morning in south Charlotte. Around 10:42 a.m. she started a left turn across Pineville-Matthews Road near Providence Road in the Arboretum area. A Nissan Pathfinder hit her vehicle hard.

The force of that impact sent the Nissan into an Infiniti G37 that sat waiting to cross the same road. Linda suffered serious injuries. Emergency crews rushed her to a local hospital. She did not survive.

Police from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department looked at the scene. Their early findings show the Hyundai was mid-turn when the Pathfinder struck it. After the cars came apart the Nissan kept going and hit the Infiniti.

Six other people got hurt that morning. The 18-year-old driver of the Nissan, Mkwasi Prince, and five passengers in his vehicle went to the hospital with minor injuries. The Infiniti driver, 25-year-old Jaylin Brown, said he felt fine and stayed at the scene.

No one has said yet what caused the crash. Detectives still check whether speed played a part or if a medical issue was involved. No charges have been filed.

Linda Ross lived 75 years before that ordinary morning drive. The crash took her life in minutes. Family and friends now face the sudden loss.

Investigators keep working the case. The road remains a busy stretch where people turn left every day. One left turn ended with a death and six people in the hospital.
