A makeshift memorial of flowers, candles, and stuffed animals grew along a Pico-Union sidewalk as a grieving family struggled to understand the sudden loss of two young brothers.
Four-year-old Jimmy Gramajo and 11-year-old Osmani Gramajo lost their lives Sunday afternoon following an alleged shooting by their father during a routine weekend outing.
Emergency calls brought patrol officers to the intersection near Venice Boulevard shortly before 1:00 p.m., where they found the two boys critically injured on the pavement.
Ambulances transported both children to regional pediatric trauma centers, but doctors were unable to save either boy due to the severity of their injuries.
Relatives shared that the boys were excited for their weekend visit, which was supposed to be a simple trip to eat lunch before returning home to their mother.
Aunt Maria Lopez described Jimmy and Osmani as bright, good-natured children who brought constant energy and laughter to their extended family.
Their 35-year-old father, Adolfo Gramajo, remains under medical supervision and in police custody after surviving a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
Investigating detectives confirmed that no other suspects are being sought, though officers are reviewing nearby surveillance video and asking witnesses to come forward.
Community members and extended family continue to gather at the site to hold vigils and support the boys’ mother through the devastating ordeal.
