Jimmy Gramajo Bonilla was only 4. His brother Osmani Gramajo Bonilla was 11. Their grandparents named them after the shooting in Pico-Union on Sunday.
The boys had been with their father, Adolfo Gramajo, 35, for a custody visit. Reports say he took them to McDonald’s before the shots rang out near Venice Boulevard and Catalina Street.

It happened just before 1 p.m. The man believed to be their dad shot them, then shot himself. He lived. The boys did not. Both were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Medical examiner records call the deaths homicides. Jimmy died from a close-range head wound. Osmani died from a gunshot to the head too.
Police have not confirmed the father’s name in public statements. His own parents told reporters it was Adolfo. He remains hospitalized from the self-inflicted wound.
Friends and neighbors left candles, flowers, and balloons at a sidewalk memorial. It sits right by the spot where the two young lives ended. The grief shows in every tribute.
The case stays open. No motive has been given. Tips go to Detective Wilfredo Ortiz at 213-486-0530 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
