Shots cracked through the dark on East Little Creek Road early Sunday. Norfolk police arrived about 12:30 a.m. on October 11. They found Mehki M. Teachey, 25, on the side of a building at 855 East Little Creek Road. He had been shot and was in bad shape. He died at the scene.
Teachey was from Newport News. The area is mixed with businesses and homes near Sewells Point Road. People nearby heard the gunfire. One young man told his family to hit the floor and stay low until it stopped.
Bilal Muhammad, who runs Stop The Violence, showed up later. He spoke with residents. He said the repeated pops were tough to take. He has been to plenty of these calls. The hurt does not fade just because it happens again.
Muhammad told folks there is no win when someone dies. Families are left broken. The neighborhood feels the shock. He said people need to care more about each other and push for real change.
Norfolk has logged more killings this year than in 2025. Muhammad called on residents and leaders to get more involved. Show up. Talk things out. Support the young people before guns come out.
Detectives are still digging into what happened to Teachey. They ask anyone with information to contact the Norfolk Crime Line or send a tip online. No arrests have been announced.
The loss of a 25-year-old hits hard. Muhammad’s message is simple. The city has to do better so fewer families end up in the same spot.
