Rose Lujan, known to her friends as RJ, was in a car that went out of control early Saturday morning in Albuquerque. The crash happened near Unser Boulevard NW and Ladera Drive NW around 1:30 a.m. Police said the vehicle was heading north at a high rate of speed. It ran a red light, lost control, smashed through three trees, hit the median, and then caught fire.
Three people in the car died right there at the scene. A fourth person was pulled out and flown to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas. That person has severe burns. The names of the three who died have not been released by police yet.
Families and friends of the people involved are dealing with a sudden and heavy loss. The memories they shared with Rose and the others stay with them. Those memories are what they hold onto now.
The crash left a hard empty spot for everyone close to the victims. Time and the support of people around them may help some, but the pain is real and deep right now.
Doctors and nurses in Lubbock are working on the survivor. The hope is that this person can pull through the burns and the rest of the injuries.
People who knew Rose talk about how she brought love into their lives. That part does not go away even after a night like this.
The investigation into what led to the high speed and the red light is still going. Police have not shared more details beyond what happened at the scene.
May the three who died rest easy. May the families find some strength in the days ahead.
