Ernesto Rodriguez died early Saturday from gunshots inside an apartment at the Country Club Apartments. The place sits in the 400 block of Aaron Lane in East Lampeter Township. Tobias John Allen Click, 29, of Harrisburg, pulled the trigger.
Click had dated Rodriguez’s girlfriend before. He forced his way in and shot Rodriguez. Then he kept the woman and her four children inside with him.
Police from East Lampeter Township started the investigation. Pennsylvania State Police joined in. They charged Click with first-degree murder, burglary, kidnapping, abuse of a corpse and more while he was still alive.
Click left the apartment and ended up in Cumberland County. Officers found him there with a gunshot wound he gave himself. He went to Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center in bad shape.
The Cumberland County Coroner’s Office said he died at 8:25 a.m. Sunday. The self-inflicted wound killed him.
The woman and the four children survived the hours they spent held there. Rodriguez did not. Authorities have not put out anything else on the timeline or the scene.
The apartment complex is in Lancaster County, east of Lancaster city. That is where the shooting and the holding of the family took place.
