Delton Lewis was just 28 years old. He sat in a car early Sunday morning near 26th Street and Ivory Avenue in East Lubbock. Someone walked right up to the vehicle. Shots rang out. Delton took the hits and never got back up.

Police got the first call about gunfire at 2:37 a.m. Officers headed that way. Then they heard more shots close by. They found Delton inside a car that had smashed into a parked one. He had clear gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead right there on the street.

Yundi Inthisan-Johnson, only 18, was in the same car. He got hit too. He made it to University Medical Center with moderate wounds. Doctors are treating him now while he hangs on.

Detectives say the two young men were pulling into that East Lubbock spot when the shooter stepped up and opened fire on both of them. No one has been arrested yet. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit took over the case.

Delton’s family woke up to the worst news a person can get. One ordinary night turned into a forever goodbye. Friends and relatives now carry the weight of questions that may never get full answers.

The streets around 26th and Ivory went quiet after the chaos. Officers taped off the area and started collecting whatever evidence they could find under the early morning lights. Every lead matters while the search for the shooter stays open.

Yundi fights to heal in the hospital. Delton’s name stays on the minds of people who knew him. Life in East Lubbock keeps moving, but this loss leaves a hole that simple words cannot cover.
