Delton Lewis never made it out of that car early Sunday. The 28-year-old sat inside a vehicle near 26th Street and Ivory Avenue in Lubbock when someone walked right up and started shooting.
Police got the first call about gunfire at 2:37 a.m. Officers headed that way. They heard more shots nearby and moved quick. They found Lewis in a car that had crashed into a parked one. He had gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead right there at the scene.
Yundi Inthisan-Johnson, just 18, got hit too. He showed up at University Medical Center with wounds from the same attack. His injuries were moderate. Doctors treated him there.
Detectives say the two were pulling into the area when the shooter approached their vehicle and fired multiple rounds. Both men got struck. No one has been arrested yet.
The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit took over the case. They are still piecing together what happened before the shots rang out. Motive remains unknown.
Lewis died on the spot. Inthisan-Johnson is recovering. Families on both sides are left dealing with the sudden violence that hit their night.
Investigators keep working leads. More details may come as they dig deeper into the early morning attack that left one man dead and another hurt.
