Kayla Bravo, 19, from Cypress, pulled her Chevrolet Equinox into the oncoming lane on State Highway 105 Thursday evening. She tried to pass in a no-passing zone. The move put her car straight into a westbound Chevrolet Impala.

The crash hit just after 5:30 p.m. west of the Brazos River in Washington County. Wallace Perry, 70, drove the Impala. Gloria Sanders, 70, rode with him. Both were from Washington. They died at the scene. Brooklyn Imani, 18, also from Cypress, sat in the back of Bravo’s vehicle. She died there too.

Bravo and two passengers, Katherine Atwell, 18, of Montgomery, and Leyla Aljaloudi, 18, of Cypress, survived. LifeFlight carried them to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. All three stayed in critical condition.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers said the Equinox crossed into the Impala’s path during the illegal pass. No signs of drinking showed up. The road closed for hours near the county line while crews cleared the wreckage.

Three lives ended in the time it takes to change lanes. Perry and Sanders were decades older than the teens in the other car. Imani was the same age as the survivors.

Investigators still dig into the exact sequence. The highway reopened, but the families of the dead face a different road now. More facts will come out as the probe wraps up.
