When people in Lyndhurst talk about Scalpers Bar & Grille, they don’t just talk about food. They talk about memories. Frank Pines Sr., who opened the bar in 1994, turned it into a cornerstone of the neighborhood. His passing leaves a hole that regulars say can’t be filled.
Scalpers was known for its wings, burgers, and wall-to-wall sports coverage. Pines made sure it was more than a place to eat. He created a space where people could gather, laugh, and feel connected. That’s why so many in Northeast Ohio considered it their go-to spot.
The bar’s 30th anniversary in 2024 was a reminder of how deeply Scalpers had become part of the community fabric. Pines was credited with building it from the ground up, and the celebration showed just how much people valued what he had created.
Sharpy’s Subs later became part of the Scalpers family, expanding the menu and drawing in even more customers. Still, the wings and burgers remained the signature, and the sports-bar atmosphere kept people coming back.
Cleveland Magazine once highlighted Pines as the man behind the bar’s success. He wasn’t just a businessman; he was a familiar face who made sure customers felt welcome. His presence was part of what made Scalpers special.
Generations of families have stories tied to Scalpers. It was where kids grew up watching games with their parents, where friends met after work, and where milestones were celebrated. Pines gave the community a place that felt like theirs.
Though no official cause of death has been released, what people know is enough. They know Pines left behind a legacy of food, friendship, and community. Lyndhurst will remember him every time someone walks through the doors of Scalpers.
