On October 2, deputies in Piedmont, South Carolina, arrested 22‑year‑old Chance Xavier May after his roommate, Chance Avery Galloway, was found shot to death inside their Chapman Lane home. Investigators say May fired the shots during a heated argument, leaving Galloway dead at just 25 years old.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies arrived to find Galloway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner later ruled his death a homicide, confirming the young man had been shot several times.

Detectives with the Homicide Division pieced together what happened inside the home. They say the two roommates got into a verbal fight that escalated. At some point, May pulled out a gun and opened fire. The confrontation ended with Galloway lying fatally wounded in the house they shared.

May was quickly taken into custody and booked into the Greenville County Detention Center. He faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Court records show no bond has been set, meaning he remains behind bars as the case moves forward.

The arrest has left the Piedmont community shaken. Neighbors say they never expected such violence from the young men living on Chapman Lane. For many, the news of May’s arrest brought both shock and sadness, knowing one life was lost and another forever changed.

Authorities continue to investigate, but the charges against May are already serious. His future now depends on the outcome of the trial, where prosecutors will lay out the evidence of what happened that night. The case highlights how quickly disputes can spiral into deadly encounters.

For Galloway’s family, the arrest offers little comfort. They are left grieving the sudden loss of a son and friend, while May faces the weight of the law. The tragedy has left Piedmont with unanswered questions and a community struggling to understand how a roommate argument could end in murder.
