On a Friday night in Franklin County, Kansas, 73-year-old Myron B. Wolken of Beloit and 18-year-old Auriana K. Davis of Kansas City, Missouri, were killed in a head-on collision that stunned everyone who heard about it. The crash happened just after 9:30 p.m. on U.S. 59, three miles north of Richmond.

Auriana was behind the wheel of her Kia Forte, trying to pass two cars — one driven by Emma Franklin, 18, of Uniontown, and another by Jolee Olsen, 20, of Lawrence. In that attempt, her car collided head-on with Myron’s Cadillac DTS. The impact was catastrophic, leaving both drivers dead at the scene.

Christian Wellbrock, 22, of Victoria, was riding with Myron and survived but needed medical care. Emma Franklin and Jolee Olsen were also treated for injuries. Investigators noted that everyone involved had been properly restrained, but the collision’s force was overwhelming.

For Myron’s family, the loss is heavy. At 73, he had lived through decades of change, carrying stories and wisdom that will now never be told again. His name will be remembered in Beloit, where he was known and loved. For Auriana’s family, the pain is different but just as deep. She was only beginning her adult life, with dreams that ended too soon.

The crash site is now more than a stretch of highway. It is a place where two lives — one just starting, one filled with years — came to an end together. That reality is hard to accept for those who loved them.

This tragedy shows how fragile life can be. Myron and Auriana, though from different generations, are now forever tied together in memory. Their families will carry the weight of that night, and their names will live on in the stories told by those who knew them.

The community mourns both losses, knowing that no words can fully capture the emptiness left behind. May Myron and Auriana rest in peace, and may their families find strength in remembering the lives they lived.
