The waters south of Nantucket turned into a search zone early Saturday after a Gulfstream G100 medical transport jet carrying six people vanished without a trace. The aircraft, operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, had departed Bermuda late Friday night bound for Boston Logan International Airport. Contact was lost around 2 a.m., sparking a full-scale Coast Guard operation in the Atlantic.

Latitude Air Ambulance, a Canadian company specializing in long-haul medical evacuations, confirmed the jet was on a medical mission. Clarence Togeretz, the company’s director of flight operations and an active pilot himself, told reporters the crew had failed to check in as expected. He cautioned that silence did not automatically mean tragedy, but admitted concern was growing by the hour.

The Coast Guard quickly mobilized both air and surface crews. Vessels from Station Brant Point joined aircraft sweeping the waters roughly 13 nautical miles south of Nantucket. The search area lies in a busy corridor between Bermuda and Boston, but so far no debris or signals have been found.

The disappearance comes just days after another medical aircraft disaster. On September 30, a REACH Air Medical Services helicopter crashed into the Pacific Ocean off California’s Catalina Island, killing three people and injuring two others. That crash underscored the risks faced by crews who fly missions to save lives, often in challenging conditions.

Latitude Air Ambulance operates several Gulfstream G100 jets, each equipped for international patient transport. The missing aircraft had been conducting a medical evacuation in Bermuda before heading to Boston. Authorities have not released the names of the six people aboard, and families are waiting anxiously for updates.

The Gulfstream G100 is a twin-engine jet known for its range and speed, making it a reliable choice for medical repatriation flights. Yet the sudden loss of contact has raised questions about what went wrong in the skies over the Atlantic. Investigators are expected to examine weather conditions, mechanical issues, and possible communication failures.

As of Saturday morning, the Coast Guard search remained active. Nantucket, a small island community about 30 miles south of Cape Cod, has become the focal point of a mystery that stretches across international borders. For now, the fate of the six aboard the Gulfstream remains unknown, leaving families and colleagues clinging to hope.
