A six-year romantic relationship turned deadly on San Antonio’s Northwest Side after a woman used her SUV as a weapon to run down her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend outside a fast-food restaurant. Police arrested 36-year-old Dionisiah Edwards Carpeal on Tuesday, charging her with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the Monday evening attack that left one woman dead and a man injured.
The violent confrontation unfolded around 5:45 p.m. on September 28 along the 9700 block of Datapoint Drive near Wurzbach Road. Investigators say the 39-year-old surviving victim and his 37-year-old girlfriend were walking from a nearby Wendy’s toward a residence when a silver SUV began crawling alongside them. Edwards Carpeal was behind the wheel, calling out to her former partner from inside the vehicle.

A nearby security guard noticed the harassment and walked over, instructing the driver to leave the walking couple alone. Instead of driving away, Edwards Carpeal pressed the gas pedal. The surviving boyfriend told police he heard tires screeching seconds before the vehicle surged forward directly into them.
The force of the impact threw the man onto the hood and windshield before he crashed onto the pavement, sustaining back and ankle injuries. His girlfriend suffered far worse harm. Witnesses told police the SUV dragged the 37-year-old woman underneath the chassis before a rear tire ran over her body.
Rather than fleeing immediately, the driver turned the silver SUV around and circled back toward the victims lying on the ground. A witness reported seeing Edwards Carpeal lean out her driver-side window to look directly at the injured woman before speeding away from the scene.
Key evidence gathered by investigators quickly pointed back to Edwards Carpeal. An employee recorded part of the attack on camera, while the security guard snapped a photograph of the getaway SUV. Police traced the license plate to Edwards Carpeal, and her ex-boyfriend later identified her from a photo lineup.
According to court documents, this was not the first time Edwards Carpeal targeted her ex. The man told detectives she had tried to run him over twice during the week leading up to the fatal crash, relentlessly texting and calling him after learning about his new relationship. She is currently held in the Bexar County Jail on a $400,000 bond as the Medical Examiner’s Office works to officially confirm the deceased woman’s identity.
