A violent midday crash along a busy Westmoreland County commercial strip left a young motorcyclist dead and a major roadway shut down on Monday afternoon. The wreck threw traffic into chaos along U.S. 30 in Unity Township while emergency crews scrambled to help.
Calls went out to emergency dispatchers at 12:42 p.m. reporting a collision in the 3700 block of U.S. 30. The crash site was located right in the Lawson Heights area near the western edge of Latrobe, directly outside the local Salvation Army.

Emergency responders pulled up to find 20-year-old Ethan Enos lying unresponsive in the roadway near his damaged motorcycle. Medics rushed him by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.
The scene itself showed the brutal force of the crash. A silver SUV remained stopped in the roadway near the motorcycle, featuring deep front-end body damage and deployed airbags inside the cabin.
State police officers quickly blocked off the 3700 block of U.S. 30 to preserve the crash site. Troopers spent hours marking tire marks on the pavement, inspecting both vehicles, and taking photos of the surrounding area.
Authorities have held back on explaining what caused the two vehicles to hit each other. Pennsylvania State Police had not issued an official report or cited any driver by Tuesday morning as they continue looking into the facts.
The fatal wreck took place along a heavily traveled corridor roughly 40 miles east of Pittsburgh that connects local towns to Latrobe. State police troopers are asking anyone who saw the vehicles right around 12:42 p.m. to contact investigators.
