A quiet afternoon in St. Joseph, Missouri turned into an active police scene on September 27, 2026. A sudden traffic collision at a busy street corner left neighbors stunned and local officers working against the clock to piece together what happened.

St. Joseph police officers responded to emergency calls at approximately 12:41 p.m. near the intersection of South 22nd and Sacramento streets. Upon arrival, responders located a wrecked minivan and a damaged motorcycle in the middle of the roadway.

Austin Holland was riding the motorcycle when the two vehicles collided in the intersection. The impact was severe enough to eject Holland from his motorcycle, leaving him lying in the street with life-threatening injuries.

Ambulance crews quickly transported Holland to Mosaic hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite the fast response and the best efforts of medical personnel, Holland died from his injuries shortly after arriving at the facility.

The incident left the surrounding neighborhood reeling, especially given how ordinary the afternoon had seemed just moments prior. Less than ten minutes before the 12:41 p.m. dispatch, Holland was inside a nearby store, hanging out and chatting with people like he did on any other day.

Those close to Holland described him as someone whose presence made a difference. He was known for maintaining daily Snap exchanges with friends, sharing jokes, and keeping up lighthearted banter that brightened people’s days.

Investigators with the St. Joseph Police Department Traffic Unit are continuing their work on the case to determine how the collision occurred. Officers are currently reviewing physical evidence from South 22nd and Sacramento streets as they work to build a clear picture of the incident.
