Texas state troopers are searching for answers after a fatal late-night motorcycle wreck on State Highway 79 in Clay County. The stretch of road sits near the quiet town of Dean, roughly 10 miles west of Wichita Falls.

Investigators identified the rider as 49-year-old Jeremiah King of Byers, Texas, who went by the nickname “Frog.” He was pronounced dead at a hospital following the Sunday evening incident.

According to preliminary reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck occurred around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection with Farm to Market Road 2393.

King was traveling northwest on his 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic when he suddenly lost control. Official reports state the motorcycle dropped onto its side and scraped along the asphalt.

First responders arrived at the scene, located just 0.17 miles west of FM 2393, and immediately provided medical care to the injured rider.

Ambulance crews transported King to United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his severe injuries after arriving at the emergency room.

The Department of Public Safety continues to investigate what caused the Harley to slide off course. Officials have not yet determined whether road conditions, speed, or mechanical failure played a role in the crash.
